Hi, I have a A1502 Mac book that won’t power on.

I was in the process of changing the SDD and after reconnecting the battery it’s completely dead including no light on the charger mag connection.

I have tried power cycles and followed instructions to reset the SMC.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

No, I inserted a new (second hand drive) and was having problems with it mounting the volume. So I swapped back to the original drive and it was at this stage it refuses to power on. Thanks.

You've probably already doublechecked your connectors for the battery, drive, etc. Easy to damage the cables, especially as they age and get more brittle.

You can also try cleaning the MagSafe port and connector.

Sometimes just leaving it disconnected from power for a while and reconnecting will reset it.

Those are steps for lucky people.

If you take it to Apple they'll give you a free diagnosis, but that will probably involve replacing the entire logic board or something, so you might want to try a local repair shop that's willing to do some basic diagnosis with continuity and repair with a new whatever and possibly some solder.

The battery was disconnected right after the bottom cover was removed and reconnected just before replacing the bottom cover?

Try leaving the battery disconnected overnight, connect the charger without the battery connected, don't touch any keys, and the MacBook should power up by itself.

Thanks for the suggestions, have left it unpowered overnight. Connected power supply without battery connected, still dead. Reconnected battery - still dead, have checked the battery still has power / power supply working (all good). I can only assume I somehow corrupted the SMC as I didn’t do anything else that would impact it….. so I either buy a refurbed logic board or find a local repairer to have a look at it.
