Hi, my Mac book pro ( 2016) won’t turn on properly .

when I boot it, I can see the keyboard light up, but nothing shows on screen.

I have tried hitting the brightness button in case it was that simple but it’s not working

any suggestions would be appreciated

Try and SMC Reset and NVRAM reset. These are copied and pasted from Apple support articles. Please note with the NVRAM reset. If there is no chime. Because the computer is muted. Just hold the keys for about 20 seconds. That should be long enough for the reset to occur.

Notebook computers with a nonremovable battery​


This applies to MacBook Pro models introduced in mid-2009 through 2017, MacBook Air models introduced in 2017 or earlier, and all MacBook models except the MacBook (13-inch, Mid 2009).
  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of these keys:
    • Shift

      on the left side of your keyboard
    • Control
      macos-catalina-sidecar-sidebar-control-icon.png
      on the left side of your keyboard
    • Option (Alt)
      macos-catalina-sidecar-sidebar-option-icon.png
      on the left side of your keyboard
  3. While holding all three keys, press and hold the power button as well.

  4. Keep holding all four keys for 10 seconds.
  5. Release all keys, then press the power button to turn on your Mac.

How to reset NVRAM​

Command key

P key
plus
R key

Shut down your Mac, then turn it on and immediately press and hold these four keys together: Option, Command, P, and R. You can release the keys after about 20 seconds, during which your Mac might appear to restart.
