Husband upgraded to macOS Sierra and didn't make a backup disk. Can't get computer to boot up, tried everything there is for booting up a locked computer, any suggestions?

Hold down Command+R when you hear the Apple "bong" noise after pressing the power button. It will boot into recovery mode. Select Disk Utility and select your hard disk in the left column. Then press the First Aid button and allow it to scan the disk for file system errors.

tried it, didn't work, tried the shift key for safe mode, try option-command-P-R. nothing works

It trys to boot (but extremely slow), when it is almost done, it goes to white screen

Can't believe that anno 2016 people resist to make valuable back-ups. I do hope he hasn't lost any important files.

Good luck restoring his bricked device!

Cheers
