I'm trying to activate ''Use your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac'' but it seems to be stuck in a loop of ''turning on'' and then always ends with the message ''Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch''.

It previously worked so I have no idea why this happens.
I have WIFI and bluetooth turned on on both my Mac and Apple Watch (series 6) and when I try this in a new MacOS User profile, it does work. I've looked inside the Prefs folder but I can't find any prefs file for Apple Watch either..

Anyone know how to fix this without creating a new user profile?

I have seen it occur when there was an issue with iCloud/appleID. Might suggest you sign out of your iCloud account on the Mac and then back in…just a thought

Might try this. Has fixed things in the past for me, most recently, after changing my Apple ID password: seemed to have really borked up unlock for some reason.
