I got an @mac.com account a small while before MobileMe launched, and never used it, but when MM launched I decided to start, so I used the @me.com address, and never @mac.com. I sign in to everything with @me.com but when I sign into MM, (now iCloud) on my iPad, I can only send email from @mac.com account, and on my iphone I can only send from me @me.com account.

IT'S REALLY FRUSTRATING!

Any ideas how to fix this? I wouldn't care if I lost access to my @mac.com address alltogether.

I just don't get how u got to set up a @mac account receiving email? @mac works only for ichat client  To your question I would just deleted the account and enter them both correctly into both devices.

I got my @mac.com account back when .mac was still a thing, and when I moved over to MobileMe, it let me have both.

I sign into iCloud of both devices as myaccount@me.com, but the iPad always makes me use myaccount@mac.com as my e-mail address, where as the iPhone lets me use myaccount@me.com.

----------

Just tried signing into both again from scratch. Go to new e-mail, and the only available from address on the iPad is @mac.com and the iPhone is @me.com.

On iCloud.com I can select from either @mac.com or @me.com.

I also get all email to either address on all of my devices.

Really weird that the iPad acts one way, and my iPhone the other...

So let me get this straight when you enter your MB account into your ipad it will switch it automatically to @mac?:confused: How come? I have an @mac.com and an @me.com and when I try to enter my @mac into an iphone, ipad and even on my mac it wont even work! I'm a bit confused about your situation how you get @mac to work as an email. Since like I said @mac only works as an iChat Client!

Which firmwares are you running on your iPad and iPhone?

Same situation here. I signed up for a .Mac trial right before MobileMe launched, specifically so I could retain an @mac.com email address. Once joining MobileMe, I could send and receive email at either my @me.com or @mac.com email.

I transitioned my MobileMe account to iCloud, and ever since, the account email address shows up as my @mac.com email, with no option to change to @me.com. Very weird.

You've said that twice, and it's not true. I, like many others, have a mac.com address and a me.com address. Anyone who had .Mac and continued their subscription through to MobileMe (actively, not discontinued and then signed up again) is able to continue using both (they come into the same mailbox, not separate addresses).

OP, make sure both devices are up-to-date. They should display all of the possible email addresses that you can send from, including both your mac.com and me.com addresses plus any aliases you might have ever set up.

In fact, you might try going into your MobileMe preferences and add an email alias, and see if it will populate the change to your devices. It doesn't have to be an address you would ever use, but give it a try just in case. EDIT: D'oh, just found out you can't add aliases anymore, not until iCloud launches. Sorry.

I see, but my @mac is not even related to my mobileme account that's weird! I can only use my @mac a an iChat client and that's all. Tried to set it up as an email and it wouldn't work.

I can roughly remember something similar when the iphone was only allowing people to set up a @me address when they wanted to set up @mac one

the way around this was to use itunes to send the account instead of setting it up on the device

I haven't used an iPad, but assuming it works the same as other iOS devices

First make sure you Mac has the account setup correctly (sending from @me)
Connect your iPad upto your Mac
Click the iPad in the left column of iTunes
Click the info button in top bar
If you scroll down you will see an option to send email settings from your Mac to the iPad (select your MM one)

This will replicate the settings on your Mac onto the iPad

I did exactly the same thing.

It's just odd that my iPad only lets me use @mac, and my iPhone only lets me use @me...

I am on the latest iOS 5 beta for both devices and I am on iCloud, but he same thing has been happening on iOS 4 since I got my iPad.

Anyone been able to fix this?

This totally fixed it! Amazing, this has been the bane of my life for ages! Spend 2 hours talking to apple today too and no help!
