hi im new in the mac world and was wondering if i need a email address can i get a @mac.com free or not ??? many thanks onemacmini

If you need it for AIM, then you can use sign up for the 60 day evaluation. Even after the account expires, you can use your .mac account for AIM.. although you won't be able to access any other service.

You used to be able to, but you can't any more. If you're looking for an e-mail account, you can try gmail - they're free, and they come with over 2.5 GB of storage. But, you need a cell phone to join. If you're looking for an iChat account, you can sign up for the .mac 60 day trial, and you get to keep the account, but for iChat only.

you can also get invites for gmail. and aim usernames work with iChat as well.

That's right. you can get an AIM username at my.screenname.aol.com .
