My MacBook Pro (Catalina 10.15.1) does not automatically connect to my wifi network, even though in system preferences' network's checkbox - where it says "automatically join this network" is checked off. Tried that a few times, turning wifi on and off, to see if the automaticity is functional, but alas it isn't. Then I noticed the Revert/Apply buttons in the "click the lock to make changes" section to apply the changes made with administration permission. When I hit Apply, this inactivated those buttons - all of which, I thought, was going right and would do the trick. But to my chagrin, even now my Mac DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY CONNECT TO WIFI. Would be grateful for any advice.

(A similar problem user "vandry" noted for his iPad, in October 2019, but nofollow-up there.)

Not that this should make any difference, but I had also set the order of preferences in the "Advanced" button's panel with my favorite network's name on the top of the list.

My kid figured it out for me. "Reboot your system, Dad!". Sure enough, automatic connection is reestablished.
