I have my boot Lion system drive. I noticed the system drive has a question mark on it ?

Boots up fine except, every once in a while it will turn on but will not boot up and I have to hold the power button in and force shutdown, then unplug it then plug it back in and it boots up fine.

Does that question mark have something to do with it ?, that's on the hard drive. maybe missing files ?

I'd say that there is something happening with how the drive is being detected. Usually the question mark means that there is no OS detected but that would show at boot, while yours is booting sometimes. I would try going into Disk Utility and verifying and repairing the disk and it's permission. You will see it when you click on the drive.

Thank you for chiming. Yeah it boots up fine 99% of the time fine and runs great, but every once in a while like described. I did run verify and repair and it didn't find any issues whatsoever. It's a brand new SSD as well. Cloned from another SSD drive which also has the same question mark on that SSD as well.

Run a demo of DriveDX and see if it has errors. CRC errors could be a bad mounting adapter.

Had such. How is the drive attached?

So what happens when the MP fails to boot? I recall another user around recently having a similar issue.

Drive is attached to Sata slot bays. OWC SSD I placed the drive in every slot. What's interesting is that I cloned this drive from a regular spinner drive which also has the same question mark in the spinner drive.

So I'm thinking it's some kind of file corruption ?

I had a friend setup up my system with so much work installing and setting up that will take me forever if I did a fresh reinstall.

Downloading DriveDX and see if that will yield something and perhaps correct the occasional no boot as I described in the first boot.

Has anyone here ever seen this ?

I know there's plenty of links talking about the folder with a question mark but on the drive itself ?

UPDATE FOLKS

Ran the DriveDX app and everything seems fine.

I meant the drive report says the drive is fine but still baffled the driver has the question mark. Thank you if anyone can shed some light on that anomaly.

Old questions, and been asked a million times.

Will the OWC Accelsior 1M2 run on Mt. LIon, PCIe ?
