.mac email backup .. stopping the service and do not want to loose all of my emails and addresses

I have had been using .mac for my email for a long time and do not want to spend $100.00 renewing it just for email .I do not want to loose all my emails but have no way to back them up . It is like they got you Apple does not let you back up your .mac emails on your hard drive .. Does anyone have an idea on how to do this , so I can cancel and get a gmail account and not loose all of my emails with addresses ..HELP

I am closing down my. mac account tired of spending over a $100 bucks every year or a service that is now not so special . You can not backup email if I could I would have done it a long time ago .. Apple must know there are many like me that will just renew becuase if we do not we will loose all of our email and addresses.

If I am wrong someone tell me how to back up 3 years worth of emails that are in my .mac email and put them on a hard drive so that I will not loose them when I shut down the .mac service . Thanks

Download Backup from the .Mac site

Use it to backup your mail..:

The only problem you might face is converting from the AppleMail .eml file if you choose to not use the Mail program anymore.

Peace they know what they are doing here and they know it will be next to impossible to have a backup of all your emails ... wish there was a way in one keystroke to just select all emails and forward them to the new spot ,,, I do not know what to do I must have all of them but do not want to join this service again .

Bump ............. I am onna loose 3 years of emails in a matter of days

If the emails are in the Apple Mail application surely they will still be there when you cancel .Mac? Anyway you should be able to set up a mass forwarding of email with Applescript, I'd love to help but am on a PC atm.;) (If no-one has by this evening (4-5 hours from now) I'll give it a go.)

 .Mac mail is accessible as a simple IMAP4 server.

Use any IMAP4 client (Mail.app or Tunderbird come to mind, set it to copy your mailbox contents to the HDD and you'll have an offline backup. Both Mail.app and Thunderbird use stanard unix mail formats so you have little risk in not being able to copy your e-mail to another service...

If you still want to forward your email you can do this simply with a Mail.app rule,

1. Load up Mail.app
2. Go to Mail Menu==>Preferences==>Rules==>Add Rule
3. Set the rules dialog up as below, (your_name@mac.com is replaced by your .Mac email address and your_other@email.com is replaced by the email address you are forwarding to)

4. Then close the dialog and press yes to apply it to all messages already in your inbox.
