mac/fat32 hd to just mac formatted easy?

is it possible for me to take an external hd that is partitioned as mac and fat 32 and change it to be partitioned just as mac without deleting the whole thing?

I'm no expert on the subject, but I doubt it. Apple's Boot Camp will take a pre-existing partition and split it in two, but I've never heard of something that merges partitions from two different formats while preserving all the data. At the very least, I think you'd lose everything on the FAT32 partition.
