I was just wondering, and I know this debate has been going on for ages, is Kazaa now the best file sharing network and if so is there a Mac based client for it? I currently use Acquisition and Hotline but Acquisition seems to be short on files very badly and has pretty poor speeds whilst hotline seems to have the same problem are there are few people with high bandwidth that don't have massive q's or need accounts for wich you have to do something stupid or massively contribute. Just wanting to get everyones opinion and experiences to see if we can establish what is the best file sharing option for everyone.....and if that is availabel to mac users.

neo (available on versiontracker) allows you to download files from some old kazaa servers, but it requires port-scanning and does not support most of the newer servers. most of the other big ones are available for the mac, bittorrent, xnap(winmx), edonkey, directconnect, but i think that it's actually kind of nice when there is a smaller percentage of the mac community in the warez market, and i'm sure that all of us here only download things for evaluation purposes ;)

there should be a forum dedicated just to these threads

the number of them is ridiculous

Yeah, I know. It's really strange. Especially considering the answers are all the same. You'd think people would bother searching the forums first.

I THINK that the problem is not that the programs are lacking in files but that they are very Mac orintated and there are less files for Mac available than PC do to the higher number of PC users. But that is only my guess... I have exactly studies the matter.

soulseek

if you want mp3's especially indie rock, then soulseek is the best...installation is not for the faint of heart. click o nthe linux link, it has good instructions for pysoulseek and some soon to be releasec OSX ones

Where can i find these. Version tracker only found neo for me.

Well Limewire is still the "old reliable" for me. iSwipe is decent and is improving, it's basically Kazaa for the Mac. Aquisition started out cool but went to $H!t. I say Lamewire is still the best for Mac right now, sadly.

limewire, neo, acquisition, iSwipe, carracho, god knows what else.

And please do a search before you post another p2p program question...the number of threads about which one to use is unbelievable.

Ummm...Lamewire? joke or typo?

carracho

yesh but isnt carracho good only if you have accounts etc? and what is the bandwidth like?

Well I run two carracho servers, and one of them is totally free. No l/p required.

Bandwidth depends on the server. Anywhere from 1k-sec to 500k-sec.

KDX is Best!

I run a kdx server and it really does rock (idioteque.hopto.org)

Its like carracho but there are less requirements for accounts etc. I used to use it by surfing the trackers but since setting up my server I have traded accounts with other really good servers that are private and not on the trackers, over all it is a n amazing community, I chat to nearly all my "customers" and I've even discussed making a the soundtrack to a movie being made half way round the world while he downloaded my demo tracks! Check it out, I don't have the fastest connection but KDX is so reliable it no longer matters how slow it goes cos you know it will work eventually! ALso no server queing exists in KDX which is the worst feature of hotline and carracho, you'll never have to queue up to download you'll just share the bandwidth with everyone.
