i'm looking for a Mac product that would be used solely for powering my tv. I need to use a browser and I use Kodi. Not interested in a smart tv mainly due to security, privacy and virus concerns. I don't need much storage space. What would you suggest?

Mac Mini. Small, quiet, powerful enough to drive 4k\5k monitors and Kodi works well on macOS.

Or, if you already have a Mac running Kodi, you can airplay to an AppleTV. There is even an iOS remote app Sybu Kodi that can be used to select content, pause\resume, etc. You just have to start the Kodi app and Airplay n your Mac before you sit down in front of the tube.

One more question: what port on the Mac mini allows me to connect it to my tv? I am currently using a display port to HDMI cable on my MacBook Pro.

I think you want to go HDMI - HDMI. Not sure audio is carried over mDP unless the port is TB3?

I use a mini for my tv, I use plex and connect to my projector via HDMI.
