iPod Mac formatted iPod / Windows PC - want to save music

Hello,

I inherited an 20GB ipod that was setup on a Mac. Before I connect this ipod to my 64bit Windows Vista PC, I'd like to save all the music. When the ipod is plugged in, it wants to format the ipod which I'm guessing would wipe all the music.

I tried Winamp but the device doesn't show up under "portables" w/ the default ipod support or with ml_ipod off sourceforge.

Is there a Windows utility that can pull the music off this Mac ipod? Something like senuTi i guess.

You'll need to purchase MacDrive to allow Windows to read/write a Mac-formatted drive. There is no free option as far as I know.

ive used iDump before, but that was for a windows formatted iPod. not sure if it works for a macintosh formated one tho

Do you have access to a mac? If so, dump the music there, reformat the iPod for Windows, and then go back to the mac to retrieve the music. Then you can dump onto the PC. Long way around, but free (if you have access to a mac).

That's interesting. I thought that iTunes only ran on 32-bit Vista.

i didn't want to install itunes before any 3rd party utilities. thanks for the heads up, now I'll have to use my laptop to update.

You can get a program called HFS explorer, its a free download and allows you to read HFS and HFS+ formatted drives...
