Do Mac games run better than PC game on bootcamp? I haven't had a chance to compare them... I have a Mac game installed already and it works fine. But I also have a few PC games which I'd like to play on my iMac. I'd need to install Windows with bootcamp, but when I do, I'd like to know if it runs smoother or not.

Games play better under Windows than they do Mac OS X.

Hell, even SPORE runs better under windows than OSX.

Let's face it.. OSX just was not made for gaming. That's why we have boot camp. And if anything stupid every happens on my Windows partition, my work won't be affected because all of that is under OSX.

That actually reminds me of that Mac vs. Windows commercial they always used to run. Making Windows look boring and whatnot. Kind of ironic that I use Mac OSX to do work, and Windows to play. hah

Well, it depends on the game. If it's a properly written Mac game, it will run just as fast under Mac as under Boot Camp. However, almost every new Mac game is a Cider port, and thus runs like molasses. For the most part, you're way better off running in Boot Camp when it comes to gaming.

Yeah, Spore doesn't count as a "real" Mac port because it's using Cider, so basically you're running it through a Windows emulator. So every Cider title is bound to be a lot slower than on Windows. Most proper Mac ports, like all Blizzard games for example, work very well on both platforms.

I am in the 'it depends' camp ... but on average I would say that most work better on Windows.

Some stuff several years ago - like Jedi Knight II - worked wonderful on OS X. Same for Jedi Academy. But Soldier of Fortune II was a real pig, KotOR has all sorts of issues, and more recent stuff like NWN2 is just unforgivably bad.

When games are written for Windows and then ported to Mac of course the Windows version will perform better. It's misleading to say OSX is not made for gaming. I'd be willing to bet if the game was written specifically for OSX and then ported to Windows you'd see the same thing in reverse.

However with how games are created today, the performance generally speaking will be better on Windows or Windows running under Boot Camp. Despite this, there are games that run just fine on OSX.

Seconded - with companies that put out Mac and Windows version on equal footings (like Blizzard, for instance) the Mac version generally performs just as well as the Windows version. There's nothing technically deficient with the Mac OS for gaming; the gaming ecosystem just isn't there to support nearly as much development work as there is on the Windows side. The lack of such an ecosystem, however, has a lot to do with Apple's unfortunate policy of ignoring that people might actually want to play a game or two on their machines.

It also doesn't help that there are far more people using Windows than Macs OS. So the return on investment for developing on Windows is far greater than it is for a Mac. That makes Macs off the radar for most gaming companies. Blizzard is a rare exception in that they spent the time making libraries that allow them to develop for both systems at the same time. They abstract the system level differences away from the game itself so it doesn't really cost them a lot more to make a game for both. Of course, they also sell so many games that they can afford to do both systems.

Windows. OSX is better at so much more (for me at least) but gaming performance - XP.

Somedays ago i tried out the online shop.swagvault.comcom for gaming currencies. As i had many not so nice experience with such shops, i entered the support chat before i brought anything, and asked them to confirm that they got enough of the currency i am requesting. After the confirmation and the payment are done, they suddenly tell me that only about 10% of the requested currency is available, and that they are goind to organize the rest, in a few hours. Well from a few hours to more hours, to days. Now three days have past, and everytime i entering the support chat and asking for the pending currency, what i also did a few minutes ago, they are just telling you the same as before, they are collecting it and please wait.
Shops i had bad / good experience with:
www.itmgame.com
thepowerlevel.com (bad)
rfnovus.com (poor)

God, this subject has been beaten to death with a sledge hammer...next time do a search, it is there for a reason.

Anyways, yes, games run better on PC in general, because usually games for mac are ported over from windows, and are only done half heartedly. I agree that when software companies do it right, games can be just as equal for Mac. Also, i agree that the clientele isnt as great for gaming on the Mac side as the Windows side, which is why there arent as many games for Mac. The only reason I dont like running games on windows is because on my macbook pro, even thoguh I use an external mouse, the trackpad still is active so when my wrist touches it, it still works. Also, another reason I dont like using Windows is because I find it harder to judge if my macbook pro will work with some games or not, beacuse they have weird requirements.
