Anyone else agree? I was just looking at their websight/store and they really have CRAP.

what are your thoughts.

Half the games have an option for surround sound on mac and then when I select it, it won't apply it. I even got a message in I think Doom that said something like "We'll add this feature at a later date". Why would I want to buy a mac os x game now other than avoiding rebooting? Not to mention most are crappy ports.

Sure, Mac games are out of date, basically no new games are ported to Mac, but some are really nice like UT2004, Starcraft, Knights of the Old Republic (shame not sequel...).

Also, some Mac-only games are pretty fun. Not that great-looking, but with fun gameplay.

I prefer OSX versions of games though, even if I have the same game for Win, because its so much nicer to open games in OS Xm especially if they are made in just a single .app package and I dont have to deal with all that windows cr@p!

I must admit, the lack of games does keep me away from booting into Mac OS as often as I should like. I play WoW in Mac, so that makes me use it. If I want to do anything other than game, then of course I boot into X.

Are you aware of Aspyr?

or

( then sort by platform )

Alot of Mac titles from some pretty "current" games. Some are not being sold anymore on their site, but there's always ebay.
It requires an Intel Mac for alot of games though... read the gamerequirements carefully.

Only if by "a lot" you mean "one"...Empire at War is the only Intel Mac game Aspyr has done so far....

And no, mac games (<- no apostrophe) aren't pathetic...there just aren't huge numbers of them.

I apologise. I was trying to point out the issue in general, just to protect the guy if he has a PPC and might buy somethign and be disappointed. I just saw that Star Wars: Empire At War and I thought DOOM3 was too ( but I am mistaken ), and assumed ( mistakenly ) that that was the direction they were going.

Call of Duty 1 & 2 on the Mac are awesome. That is all the gaming I need right now but I am far from a hardcore gamer. If I was, I would have at least one console (XBOX 360), and would build my own high end gaming PC.

I would say gaming on the 'Mac' is a far cry from being pathetic. On the contrary, I think it is quite good. Especially since Boot Camp, which is still technically on the 'Mac'.

all i need is civilization IV, so i'm pretty content with the gaming situation.

Agreed. While we don't get each and every game the industry throws at the gamer's world, there is a good selection of titles that should keep you busy for some time.

To be honest the only commerical PC game I've even slightly been interested in since 2000 is Half Life 2. I couldn't care less about FEAR, all them WW2 shooters and RTS games.

The most important game for me is Cave Story. And that was developed for PPC Mac and XP with a DS port on the way too. I'm much more interested in creative indy games, and both systems have them in an abundant supply.

Short of that, in the console world the DS and Wii keep me verily entertained. :)

They are pathetic, but I didn't buy a Mac to play games anyway.

Neither did I. But it would be nice to know that I could if I wanted too. For me, A nice racing game would be nice, or even some clancy games.

Basically, games good enough to shut up PC users. LOL.

I am not trolling, sorry if you think that, I just wanted to see others opinions on the matter. I just bougtha MAC PRO and it will be here tomorrow. When I was looking at the apple store, I noticed a lack of up to date games. I also noticed some werent even made anymore and were currently unavailable. I was a little bummed out I guess.

I suppose if i really want to play games I should get an X-Box but part of me knows that if I had that, I would never leave it alone and get any work done.

Colin McRae Rally?

Hopefully it won't be long before someone announces some more more racers, as a lot of the big name racing titles are sorely missing on the Mac.

Publishers seem to be closing the gap between PC and Mac release now (in general), so let's hope the games that are due on the PC in the near future will hit the Mac shortly afterwards.

Well, no, you're right that it's the direction they're going in. Just so far, there's only been one Intel-only game from Aspyr. There will definitely be more...there are a few others out there from other companies (X3, Heroes V, and the online Myst game). I just didn't want any unaware PPC owners to think that most games were Intel now. :)

crossover office:mac lets me run halflife 2 native on osx without windows and it runs faster than windows on the same hardware. And you will be seeing a lot of intel only mac games soon due to cider making it almost a one click process and a ui tidy up.

Are you saying this based on personal experience as in you have done it?

Yes i have used crossover office and before that cedega on linux to play windows games on *nix systems. Crossover office isn't as fast or supported as cedega but the games do run smoother than windows. When i say faster i dont mean high FPS i mean higher average and less massive drops in frame rates like a scene with a stalker windows dropped to 5FPS were the mac stayed at 22FPS and the loading times on the mac are a lot faster than windows.
