There has been a lot of discussion lately concerning the choice of GPU in the new iMac. I myself have said I believe there is a sizable following of folks who would game on the new iMac if the GPU supported it and others have said that Mac gamers are simply a vocal minority and Apple is catering to their base.

As I do not have any numbers to backup one assertion or the other, I've started this simply poll (far from scientific) to gain a glimpse into the gaming habits of the folks in this forum.

The only Computer game I play is on Windows, 3D Pinball Space Cadet.

I have 60GB PS3 and rarely play it.

How about "Every 3D game I want to play is fully supported on my Mac"?

Some people act like the iMac GPU is completely worthless for games. That's simply far from the truth.

Good point. That is an option I definitely missed. Too bad I can't go back and add it. I'd like to get as accurate a poll as possible.

Also I would like to add my real answer "I would play more 3d games if there were more out for the mac", the GPU does just fine.

I have a few games that are Quake III engine-based and UT/UT2004 that I play on the Mac and a few others that I play on Windows but it's almost impossible to find a decent Mac game to play now since my PowerBook is outdated as far as game publishers are concerned.

lol

I like how there are no "I play 3D games on my mac and it's sufficient" option, I do understand why thought ;D

Read above, it was already mentioned and I agreed it was an option I overlooked. If everyone who would have selected that choice would enter a reply to that effect I will include their vote in the final tally.

After a day of voting it appears we have approximately 70% of the votes by gamers who would like to see an improved GPU in Macs versus 30% who either do not game or are happy with Macs they way there are (I included the two responses indicating they were happy with their Macs 3D gaming ability in the results).

If the voting continues along the same lines it would appear gamers who want an improved GPU are the majority and those who either do not game or are happy with their Macs gaming abilities are the vocal minority. But time will tell. :)

None of the above: I play 3D games on my Mac all the time, and have no issues with how they are supported.

I am fortunate, I realize, that I like sci-fi games. More and more top sci-fi titles are coming to Mac, and if there were even MORE on top of that, I wouldn't have time to play them anyway. Quake Wars and UT3 are the big ones I want--and we're getting them :) Now, if I was a racing or sports fan, I might not find enough to keep me busy!

Meanwhile Epic and Aspyr have been keeping my games patched pretty well, so thanks!

I just built a new PC so I can play computer games again. Spent around $600, and re-used some existing parts from a previous system. I tried gaming on my MacBook, but even at the lowest settings it just wasn't powerful enough. I hope Apple will release an upgradeable headless system. The Mac Pro is too expensive, and not designed for gaming.
