My parents have recently (finally) let me get into fps, but not on the wii. Partly because I have little siblings, partly because they're weird. Anyways, that leaves me with our imac with upgraded RAM. What I'm looking at is halo. But I'm kind of confused, as well as wanting people's reviews. As I understand it, the mac halo isn't the real thing, it's a loose port or something like that. Is that correct? Also, I downloaded and tried the demo. I thought it was pretty good, but I don't see what I get if I purchase the full thing. Finally, does anyone recommend it?

I played all the way through Halo on my 15" Powerbook G4 about 3.5 years ago. I really enjoyed it, but this is coming from someone who has never played the console version of Halo. I think that if you really liked the demo, go ahead and buy it.
 
Do you know what I'll get for buying it though? Like I said, I see absolutely no limitations so far. Is it perhaps free now because it's an old game? I really have no clue at all how the halo on the mac work, and I can't find the information online. I googled mac halo, got a bunch of demo downloads for this one, and halo 3 stuff for xbox.
 
Halo for Mac has been discontinued. You can still buy it, but it's usually very expensive ($70+). As for what you get when you buy the game, you get the full game, online and offline play, and so on. The demo is PPC only, so it's not an accurate representation of the game on Mactels.

So no, not free. :) And no, it's the real thing, it is a port, but so are most games for Mac. It's not a Cider port though, and it runs very well.
 
It was originally the best one.

I remember when I went to E3 in either 1999 or 2000, and Bungie had their Halo booth there, which was a tent, with nothing showing on the outside. I waited in line, got in there, and they explained that they were developing this game (Halo) on Macs/for Macs, and then they showed the demo. It was the most amazing thing I had ever seen graphically. Just mind-blowing graphics, and they were showing real-time game play! I was like "...the Mac can do this!? Who knew!????"

Then I was back at E3 in 2001 after Bungie had been ironically purchased by Microsoft, and at the Microsoft booth they were previewing Halo for Xbox. Wow did it look terrible. Poor frame rate, dumbed-down graphics, just a total joke compared to what they showed on the Mac a year or two earlier. It was very frustrating to hear all the people around the Microsoft Halo booth raving about how great the game looks. The whole time I'm thinking "What??" They obviously hadn't ever seen the original Mac version.

*sigh* - Then it was just annoying and frustrating to have this game out and people going on about how awesome it is... yet they never knew how awesome it really was, and that what they were playing was terribly inferior. This is a prime example of ignorance being bliss.

I think the formally released Mac version ended up being a port of the retooled (dumbed down) Xbox/PC version, so, just sad!
 
If you realistically want to buy the game (and don't want to pay$100+ for it on ebay), you should get the PC version (like $15 i think) and play it via Boot Camp. It runs great on high specs on my White Macbook w/the ****** GMA X3100 graphics card, so it will play great on ur iMac.
 
@sorkvild - Not sure what info you want exactly or why since I know it runs fine, but I've got 4GB RAM, we added more just recently.

@SHADO - I didn't see the price for the full version until now... that sure puts a damper on my hopes. My over controlling parents won't allow windows in any way shape or form on our computer, because they know I could get on the internet without controls then, even if they put some up. Yes, they do have parental controls on our computer. *sigh* So the mac is probably all I've got. That being said, I can possibly talk them into letting me get it anyways. Now I have to ask though, is the windows version the same as the mac one? It's definitely cheaper, ($20 on amazon), is that the only difference?

There is no difference except the price, of which there is significant difference lol ($20 vs. $100+)
