I am having trouble with my computer freezing on " the bomb and fuse box which says ' sorry, a system error occurred. " Finder " error type 10...can anybody tell me what this problem might mean? I have a G4 power mac dual 1Ghz proscessor with 1Gb of Ram. My system continues to freeze up even after restarting....it doesn't want to log on to the internet either... if anyone could help-- I would sure appreciate it--- Brody

Mac help...can anyone out there tell me what a type 10 error means.?

look it up on apple's support forums, i'm pretty sure it lists the def of all errors on their. try repair permissions? i had to do a clean install after my DVD Player App gave me a error -49.

The error described makes it pretty obvious that it is OS 9 or older, if you have experience with it. The biggest giveaways to me were 'bomb and fuse box' and 'sorry, a system error occurred', both of which are characterisitic of fatal Classic errors.
As for the error, I looked it up on www.AppleErrorCodes.com, but its description doesn't seem right, since the problem is on a G4 and the error described problems with 68Ks. I'm guessing it has multiple meanings like the type 11 error. Here it is anyway:
As for the cause, it could be an extension conflict as tpjunkie said, also possibly some corrupt preferences. Try disabling all third party extensions and control panels, and then try moving your Preferences folder temporarily to see if that fixes it.

Heh to 'general unhappiness'. It's a fairly random error and can strike as unexpectedly as the Spanish Inquisition, but I encountered my first one in ages just today on opening a Quark 4.11 document on a 9.2.2-booted Mac. Thanx for that info. Last night I had to leave my computer before I could finnish troubleshooting this problem. I have a hunch that you may be right about the extensions conflict problem because last night I opened my extensions and decided to restart the computer with the Mac OS 9.2.1 All....right now I'm going to see if it will now log on to the internet because it was freezing on that error everytime I tried to log on. I'll try removing third party extensions as you suggested and movemy prefernces folder as you suggested... I use digidesign's pro tools application most frequently on this computer-- so I create my own custom settings in the extensions sometimes to free up unesscessary memory usage for things that I may not be using ....anyway I'll get back ya-- Bro
