i saw a screenshot of someone's desktop recently, and they had a massive icon for their "My Computer" (can you tell i've just dropped windows?)

is there an app or something that allows you to change that icon?

also, is it possible to change the icons for the shortcut folders in the sidebar? looks a bit boring just as a list of folders! :D

thank you

Welcome to Macs Sic. :)

Click anywhere on the desktop, press COMMAND-J and a little slider should come up from where you can choose the icon file size.

The same can be done in folders. :)

CandyBar will do it, or if you want to change them manually, just use the File menu to Get Info on the icon and paste the new one over the top of the old one by selecting the old one (top left) and pasting.

But first, to get the new icon into your clipboard, you'll need to do the opposite with a downloaded icon. Once you've found an icon (look through Apple's own download page for a start), Get Info on it, select the icon in the top left and copy. :)

You can easily make your own icons to paste. Just make a small file in photoshop or something that saves an file with the image as the icon. And then choose the get info command on that file and you can then use the icon you find there.

How do you save the image as an icon with PS? Don't you need a plug-in for creating icon with PS?

cheers for the replies everyone.

i stumbled across an option whilst messing around this morning, that allowed me to only display my hard drive icon on the desktop...ie. no connected devices/network places...only problem is, i cant find it again. any pointers on that? :)
