Mac Installation Help!!!

When i download a program from the Apple site FolderIconX and Iconeer i get an icon on my desktop like usual. when i click on it, instead of starting an installation, it asks me to pick an application to open it with. does this mean what i downloaded is no good? or is there anything i can do?

What are the file extensions? If they are .sit or .sitx then you probably need Stuffit Expander.
