Some people may see the Mac M1 Mini as suitable for Home Theatre use. Others may be tempted to use it with, for example, the LG CX 48" OLED as a monitor for other reasons, maybe video editing etc.

I'm interested in video editing using Davinci Resolve. Does the M1 graphics transmit colour at 10-bit depth ?

If it does, how would you connect it to for example the LG OLED so that 10-bit depth was preserved. The LG has HDMI 2.1 inputs.

Does anybody have definitive information about this ? The Mac website is quite liberal with marketspeak, but quite guarded with deep detail.

Best Regards

Mac mini m1 is limited to hdmi 2.0. You won't be able to get 4K 120hz at 10 bit to a CX48. The mini can still output 4K@60hz to the CX48 if you really want it as a monitor.

All you would need is a good quality hdmi cable that can support the max 18gps bandwidth of hdmi 2.0

Thanks for the reply. Would it not be possible to utilise the Thunderbolt digital video out from the M1 ? The bandwidth of this is 40Gbps.

Both ends need to support the protocol being used. Thunderbolt doesn’t do video itself, but supports carrying DisplayPort. The M1 supports DisplayPort 1.4, IIRC.

So you really need something that can convert from DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 to try for 120Hz. Something like this *might* work:

Rather clunky though.
