On M1 MBP. 11.3.1

I have a hotmail, iCloud and exchange account setup.

I have started to notice;

- slow to update mailboxes - (before restore mailboxes would update whilst machine was asleep)
- notifications play up, sometimes don't appear but the messages are visible in the mail app itself
- when quitting Mail it just hangs for ages and will even prevent the system from shutting down
- Sometimes get 'downloading xxxx messages' but no progress ever happens, I have to force quit

Anybody have similar, iv already done full restore by deleting hard drive and then installing MacOS again.

Do I consider using another mail client? if so, which one (pref. native/universal for m1)

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, that was my first port of call. No issues were showing though! - Maybe Apple were just late to update status!

Doesn't help understanding why the mail app hangs on close...

Folks,

The Apple Mail app started out not very good and has stayed at that level. Not sure they support M1 yet, but Thunderbird is free, open source, and works well. It is also updated frequently.

I would say it is extremely basic, which is what I want. I’ve used Outlook for decades and appreciate the simplicity of Mail.app.
