Mac Mail has started creating duplicate folders in the "On My Mac" section of my mail app. Those folders are all iterations of the Import folder: Import-1; Import-2; Import-3, etc.

It had gotten up to Import-14 or so when I decided to delete them all but shortly after they came back and are now being created again. Each folder contains the same contents as the original Import folder, around 600 emails from 8 years ago.

Anyone have any idea how I can stop this from happening? Thank you.

Edit: attached a screenshot to show the new folders.

The extreme option would be to turn off all your account(s), delete everything in ~/Library/Mail, and then re-add your account(s)…and that's pretty easy if all your accounts are IMAP or Exchange and you DON'T have any mail under "On My Mac" that you want to keep.

There's obviously something squirrelly in that folder that's not following your desire to be deleted…it's tricky trying to figure that out.

Another approach would be to make a new user account on the Mac. login to it, and set up one email account using the email info from the existing user account. See what happens.

In other words, instead of turning off email accounts on your existing Mac user account, start with a new empty Mac user account and add email to it.

This continues to be an issue, even after updating to Ventura. Bumping to the top in the hope that someone has a new idea here...thank you!

Same issue... tried deleting the v[X] folder in the Library > Mail folder. Will see if it helps like I've seen some folks suggest...
