Mac Mail stealing focus

Interested in this also. Have yet to find a fix for Catalina (or Mojave, for that matter). Although not the point of your thread, @salivan, have you found a fix? I've had to switch to using Kiwi for Gmail until Apple fixes this...
 
A workaround is to set it up again but instead of choosing a Gmail account, choose Other. I did that and I haven't had Mail pop up since.

That means you've to enable less-secure-app access feature in gmail. Doesn't sound good to me.

It seams to be corrected in Big Sur PB. At least I have been most of yesterday and today using the laptop and it did not open. I will continue monitoring this nasty issue in the next weeks, for me it was the most irritating bug in Catalina.

I tried spark, it didn't stick. I really like mac mail app, I find it to have right minimum features for me :)
 
Hey guys. Big Sur is here, and it seems like mail app is fixed.
