Mac Mail suddenly really wonky

Over the past week, my Mac Mail (iCloud account) has become completely whacked. I sent feedback to Apple about it. And now it's getting worse. For all the years I've been using it, my iCloud mail has been really zippy, syncing almost instantaneously. Beginning after the recent Big Sur update, whenever I delete or move a message I get the "Moving Messages" notification at the bottom right, and it sits there for a LONG time (several minutes). Today another bizarre behavior crept in: deleted or moved messages pop back into my inbox as unread. And messages from weeks ago are suddenly being marked as unread.

Anyone else experiencing similar issues with iCloud lately?

I think I might have the answer. Since the same problem was occurring on my iPhone, I assumed it was an iCloud issue. I was on the phone with Apple's tech support. They had me delete my iCloud account on my Mac and then re-enable it. After a couple of hours, everything was synced up and things seem to be working better now.
