Has anyone ordered from them? I've read some pretty bad things and I've also read some really good stories as well.

Is it really worth trying to save the tax money from Apple?

The only bad thing I've heard from MacMall is that if your unit arrives and it has a problem, they want you to take it Apple and get it fixed vs. them shipping you out another one.

Yeah. I've heard that too. Considering the closest Apple store to me is 4 hours. I probably will just go with the Online Apple store.

I ordered my MBP from there a couple years ago and I didn't have any issues. The shipping was fast and the product(s) were sealed and brand new. The reason I purchased from there is because they allowed BillMeLater and that was the only pay-later service I qualified for (turned down for financing options from Apple)

I bought one of my Macs from them. The reason? While they tend to stay pretty close to stock Apple pricing, they often add value with bonus items. For example: extra ram, free stuff (printers being most common, carrying case, accessories), etc. Extra ram is always a nice bonus. And free stuff can be sold giving you a sale price discount without getting the discount at checkout. When they are doing lots of bonuses for the same price as Apple with no such bonuses, that's added value for the same money.

Right now, I see they are offering Parallels 6, and HP all in one, and a "grab bag" promotion of little cheap accessories, plus a slight discount off stock prices. Or buy the same product from Apple and then pay extra for Parallels 6, an HP all in one, and any grab bag promotional item/junk. Don't care about those extras? P6 might sell for up to 39 (the lowest I've seen it offered new). The HP might sell for $20-$100. Etc.

MacMall Opinion

I will never use MacMall again. My friend had a major problem with a new computer purchased from them. I tried to help as he works during day and was unable to call their customer service. I was unable to connect with the salesman from whom the computer was purchased and the customer service supervisor was nasty, rude and unresponsive to the problem. After my many attempts with their customer service my friend took a day off and contacted an Apple executive. When she heard the problem and MacMall’s intransigence she dispatched a new computer and he sent the bum one to Apple.

I have used MacConnection in the past and they have been excellent but I now prefer dealing with Apple directly, either through one of their outlets or direct.

Another good option is to use a small Apple approved private store in your community - one with whom you or good friends have previously dealt.

Good Luck!
