Mac Mini 1.66 cooler if sideways?

I was wondering if my Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo would run cooler if it stood on its side. The bottom rubber part seems to get so warm and I thought that letting air get that that precious surface area would help. Has anyone tried this? Is it safe?

I don't know if it'll cool better, but Apple gives you the green light on doing it.

Why yes it does

Yes, the mini does run cooler when on its side. There is a temp/fan program that you can get to test this. It allows the viewing of several temps and allows settings for when you think the fan should turn on and at what RPM. There are side cases available if you decide to go this route.

i tried this and found it does run 1-3 degrees cooler on it's side and the fan slowed down 200-300rpm

also found it runs 10+ degrees cooler without the cover on.
