Can't find my late 2006 mac mini dvds. The ones that came with 10.4. I wanted to run hardware test but I can't find the originals.

Does this look like it might work. No model listed. But mine came with 10.4. I have 10.6.6. now.

The grey install discs that come with Macs are model-specific and will not work on other models. You can either order replacement discs for your model by calling Apple (800-767-2775 in the US), or you can buy a retail copy of Snow Leopard.

But retail snow leopard does not have hardware test. I'm wondering if that ebay link might work? It is for mini and has 104. Just doesn't say which mini.

They may or may not work. If it was me, I'd either upgrade to Snow Leopard ($29) or order replacement discs from Apple.

I already have 10.6.6. But I need hardware test. Snow leopard does not have hardware test.

If you can get those at auction cheap I would take a chance, but like GGJstudios said,it may not work with your model.

I would go for it if you can get them for less then $20. They probably will sell for the starting bid price....Hopefully,not many people will read this thread and bid.

I called up apple and they said they can send me new discs. But it will cost me 68 dollars. I said forget about that. So now all I have to do is find out how many minis were sold with 10.4. Cuz not all mini discs might work. Ones from my dads 2006 mac book pro didn't work. So it is machine specific looks like.

Did they say why it was so much? Historically, they've charged somewhere around $20 or $25 for replacement discs.

The first three Intell Mac Mini models came with Tiger. The Early 2006, the Late 2006 and the Mid 2007. But the Mid-2007 got 10.5.0 discs when Leopard came out in October of 2007.

According to everymac.com the mini G4/1.33 and G4/1.5 also cam with X 10.4.2 (8D40) So that ebay link could also be g4 discs maybe?? Or is everymac wrong??

Those could be for a G4 Mac Mini. The iLife coupon is for iLife 2005, not 2006.

He said it came with g4 so no good. Back to the drawing board.

You meant the hardware diagnostics on the snow leopard is useless? Or Apple Hardware Test? Anyhow I just ordered from apple directly. Yesterday she said 68 dollars. Today he charged me only 34 dollars including tax and shipping. Not sure why the lady yesterday said wrong. These are the part numbers for my late 2006 if anyone is interested.

2z691-5887 - install cd number 1

2z691-5860- install cd number 2

Instead of "800-myapple" I called "1-800-275-2273"

Ebay wasn't any cheaper. So good for apple and I'm getting the exact numbers. No guessing.

So thanks for all the help.
