I'm having problems with my Mac Mini: mid-2007 model, 1.8Ghz, 2Gb Ram

The screen starts switching itself on/off constantly when I set the resultion to highest setting (1920x1020) but stops doing this when set to 1600x900.

Is there a fault with the machine or is this model not capable of running on max resolution?

Much thanks,
Mrrtn

Max for the model is 1920x1200. I have the same one as you and its currently running a beamer at 1920x1080.
So it should work for you.

Do you have any way of hooking the monitor up to another computer to test the monitor? Could be that the mini is dying I suppose. I have two 2006's (have the same GPU) and both are able to run my 1080P monitors no problem. Are you sure the monitor is a 1080P?

Just as an option: Someone I know had a similar problem recently (although with a much newer Mac), and he solved it basically by doing a PRAM- and SMC-reset and deactivate the power saving mode in the settings. Maybe this helps? If not, probably the Mini's graphic chip or the display is dying.

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll give that a go.

The monitor works fine when I hook my PC up to it, no flickering there.

Interestingly, i have hooked up my Mac Mini to my TV as a HTPC and it runs 1080p without flickering! It responds a bit sluggishly in this mode, so I have it turned a bit lower. Perhaps I'll try running some HTPC loader instead of Snow Leopard and see if it improves performance. Any suggestions which one I should try first?
