Im thinking of putting an SSD into my 3,1 Mac Mini, just had a few questions;

1. Is there any advantage of putting the SSD(boot drive) where the current HDD is over in the optical drive bay? (The install using one of these caddy's is marginally simpler, although I will also be replacing the RAM while in in there anyway)

New Replacement 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy Adapter SATA for Mac Mini late 2009 | eBay

^^^ is there any issue with this ebay caddy versus the OWC one?

2. I have been told the 3,1 Mini has had issues with 6 gbs SSD's and will only be able to use 3gbs SSD's. The reason I ask is some where down the line I may decide to put this drive into an MBP that I know will be able to take advantage of the 6Gb/s. Does any one know if the 6Gb/s SSD's are compatible with this iteration of the Mini?

Thanks!

6Gb will automatically throttle to 1.5 or 3. I use a 6Gb in my 1.5Gb G5 with no issues.

that adapter should work. you don't need to put in a sata III you can put in a sata II That mini works very well with a samsung 470/ 810 sata II ssd

I would buy this if it were under 200 usd as he ships to your country

Thanks, Yeah i'm in Australia.

Im considering a SATA III because the SSD may one day be used in an MBP.

if you want a sata iii try to get a crucial m4 here in the states the 256gb size is about 180 to 210 usd. i am not sure if the low price for these is in Aussie land. the last 30 days these ssds have dropped from 375 usd to as low as 180 usd
