I just purchased my Mac Mini 2010. My first Mac and very excited, but am having trouble connecting my two VGA displays that I've been using with an HP desktop. For one, I know I can get the mini-displayport to VGA cable. Great. What about the other? I tried connecting the HDMI/DVI cable using my VGA to DVI adapter that works fine with my HP. Didn't work. Technically challenged me took both the cable and adapter to the Apple store. The guy I talked to said he wasn't aware that there were differing types of DVI connectors, but figured that I needed a 25-pin DVI to VGA adapter instead of the 29-pin one I have. Ah, OK. However, will that work? My current adapter seems to be a dual-link DVI-I that can handle digital and analog. What will fit the HDMI/DVI cable is a DVI-D adapter, and that, from what I can tell, can only handle digital and not analog. Do I really need to get a new monitor, or will a 25-pin DVI-D to VGA adapter actually work? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Just got off the phone with Apple tech support: I could try connecting my current setup to the Mini with an HDMI to DVI-I cable, but no guarantee it will work. What WILL work is to get a new monitor. Sigh.
