Tried to update my mac mini 2010 last night, downloaded "free update" but then opted for clean install, did not proceed with the install menu and rebooted to see whether Mavericks will appear in the recovery mode (cmd+R). But all I got at the reboot was a white screen. Resetting SMC didn't do anything, I can't reset PRAM with either wired or wireless keyboard (no second reboot), apparently the USB ports don't work (tried to attach an external HDD and pen drive), changing the HDD doesn't do anything, and Disk Utility shows everything is fine with the SSD drive I had inside the mini. Tried disconnecting both drives and all temp sensors as Service Manual troubleshooting section suggest - didn't change anything - white screen, folder with a question mark does not appear. The manual suggests mainboard failure which seems very odd to me, since it has been working just fine before the Mavericks download/reboot. Any ideas what could be the problem?

Have you tried manually powering off and starting over?

Tried pretty much everything there is to try, to no avail - turning off, unplugging for a minute, plugging back in, turning on after some time... Trying to burn a Mavericks DVD on another Mac now, if that doesn't start it, I don't really know what to try next.

Done that too. No RAM gives the beep, any RAM gives chimes and white screen.

Just tried Mavericks DVD - popped out at first attempt, stuck inside on the second (tries to read, no spin-up, does't pop out).

Did you try slap it with your flat hand? That's how they fix things in Paris Dakar, the Apollo missions etc.

The trouble is, it doesn't recognize USB or keyboard... I suspect all interfaces are down. It only chimes, goes to white screen and tries to read the DVD at low speed (no usual high-pitched whirring sound). I've seen a few similar "white screen of death" topics on this forum, but they are all dead-ended. Perhaps it didn't have anything to do with Mavericks, just a coincidence.

Not really... Russian middle of nowhere ;-) Although I just learned that we now have a Mac Service site in our city (when I called Apple Support 10 days ago with a different question they said the closest one was in Moscow... now, that's what I call service! :D) Might have to pay them a visit eventually - although they'll probably blame it on the mainboard, which is prohibitively expensive to replace.
