Hi,

Im thinking about buying a Mac Mini. I was going to opt for the non server version and get the 2.66ghz processor and the upgraded hard drive to 500GB.

My question is, is it a worthwhile upgrade? or is it just better to leave it with the 2.4ghz and get a better hard drive.

Regarding the hard drive, are you able to buy a faster one ie, one that runs at 7200rpm and put it in the mac mini yourself. I have heard that the drive in the Mac Mini is a slow hard drive.

What is the biggest hard drive that will work in the Mac Mini?

Many Thanks

Im looking at getting a mac Mini. Which one would be best to get regarding the performance and price increase?

1. 2.4GHz : 320GB - £612.00

* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2GB memory
* 320GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

2. 2.4GHz : 500GB - £694.00

* 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2GB memory
* 500GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

3. 2.66GHz : 500GB - £817.00

* 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
* 2GB memory
* 500GB hard drive1
* 8x double-layer SuperDrive
* NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics

I will be upgrading the Memory from another company.

There are threads here that talk about what PITA it is to replace the hard drive in a 2010 mini. Considering it myself. I might just wait to see if apple puts a sandy bridge 4 core in the next update. The current hard drive is slow. If I do any upgrades, will put a 7200 hard drive and replace the optical with a ssd drive. I already maxed my ram to 8GB.

When will be the next update??

It looks like the Mac book pro's will get sandy bridge first. Probably a few months afterwards but there is no set date. Since the mini uses laptop parts, I'll be looking at performance of these. Should be pretty close.
