Mac Mini 2011 1080i flickering issues.

Hi there, this is my first ever post on here, so excuse the possible new-guy-ness.

I bought a brand new 2.3ghz i5 Mac Mini 2 days ago, and used a standard HDMI-HDMI connection for using my TV. It works fine on 720P but whenever I use 1080i it seems to flicker a bit.
I know the TV can handle 1080i because I have used my PS3 on it for several years on 1080i and 1080p.
Any ideas on what to do?

Can anyone help me at all with this? Its not the same running in 720P

1080i is going to flicker. It's an interlaced signal. No real way around that. You'll be happier with a screen that can run native 1080p.

Okay, so how can I get the mini to display 1080p? In the list of resolutions it only has 1080i not 1080p? :/

are you sure that your monitor can handle full 1080p? It should show up right in display settings. Flickering with 1080i is expected.

we need the exact make and model of your tv.

Also the hdmi cable may be going bad.

if your tv can do 1080p and you are not getting the option for it something is wrong.

If you bought the tv that long ago, that would of been a rather expensive tv if it does have 1080p. My 40" 720p tv (which can also do 1080i) cost around £750 back then.

Also doesn't the mini usually change it's res to the max the monitor/tv can do, the first time you plug it in?

My mini, using hdmi, auto-set it's self to my monitor's, and my tv's max res. If your mini only set it to 1080i, then thats probably all your tv can manage. (if thats the case, 720p is better than using 1080i). Playing on my tv with my ps3, 720p looks so much better than 1080i.

I keep getting the urge to upgrade to a full 1080p tv. Maybe I'll find a bargain in the jan sales!.
