We own a lot of the 2011 Radeon 6630 versions of the Macmini5,2. We have just been through some extensive testing of ATEN's otherwise excellent DisplayPort KVM switch (CS1942) connected to a Dell U2713HM.
We have tested Macmini5,1, Macmini5,3, Macmini6,1 and Macmini6,2 with the CS1942 and all functions work perfectly.
We are using the KVM to switch between a Windows 8 64bit machine and the Macmini5,2 both in 2560*1440 mode. The only way we can get the Macmini5,2 to function at all is to boot with it in focus. We can then switch to the Win8 machine and back once but if we try it a second time the U2713HM hesitates and then enters Power Save mode (ie out of sync). If we boot the Macmini5,2 with the Win8 machine in focus, we can never switch to the Macmini because the U2713HM simply drops to powersaver mode. The only resolution where it works OK on this Mac Mini is 1024x768 so we can happily switch to and from a Win 8 machine at 2560*1440 and the Mac Mini at 1024*768 without any problems. Nothing above or below 1024*768 works.
We have tried EDID spoofing, hot plugging, EDID override etc etc all have the same result. We have tried 10.8.3 and the latest 10.8.4 but no luck. We even asked Apple if it was possible to disable the 6630M in the Mac Mini this allowing the HD3000 to take over. No luck!
Any thoughts on why the 6630M version is causing all this grief would be most welcome.
On a lighter note, one of the Aten German engineers initially suggested that when we had a Win 8 machine in focus "we could not switch back to the Mac fast enough" and this was causing the problem.
BTW, I have been reminded that the ATEN CS1942 is sold in the US as an IOGEAR GCS1924
