With the just released EFI firmware update for the Mac mini, here:

There is no more need to modify the boot.efi, as the boot screen is now black by default, even after a PRAM or SMC reset.

Is this thread part of a continuing conversation? It appears that this update does not have universal application. Does this update apply only to Mountain Lion and Mavericks systems?

This update is included in the latest 10.10.4 and 10.11 seed, so if you updated to either of those you have it already.

It fixes the thunderstrike vulnerability.
