I use a 2015 MacBook Pro with an Intel HD Graphics 530 and a Radeon Pro 460. I no longer need a laptop and find that I see the spinning beach ball when cutting and pasting into Keynote documents and when using the format painter.

It looks like the 2018 Mac Mini would provide a big speed bump, but I am concerned that the lack of a dedicated video card would slow down the computer to the point that it would be no faster than what I am currently using.

Any thoughts about this? Worth waiting for the mini to be updated with a dedicated video card?

Thanks in advance.

I would be extremely surprised if a 2018 mini has any issues with running Keynote. You can test this easily enough at an Apple store.

I also wouldn’t hold my breath on the mini acquiring dedicated graphics.

Just make sure you get a decent amount of RAM - the iGPU shares (and doesn’t reserve, apparently) system ram.

You didn't tell us what your target budget is, and what apps you regularly use other than Keynote.

But my -guess- is (and it's ONLY "a guess") is that Keynote is not that "demanding" an app, either CPU-wise or graphics-wise.

Having said that, if you're unsure about how powerful a new Mini should be, I suggest you "compromise":
Get the i5 CPU.

Unless you KNOW that you need "lots of RAM", I'd suggest 16gb. This will provide "legs" for future growth of the demands of the OS.

I got my 2018 Mini with a 512gb drive, but I probably could have done fine with 256gb (supplemented by external storage). I don't think the 1tb SSD is worth paying Apple's price for.

Also, unless you're broke and absolutely need the $$$, DON'T sell the 2015 MacBook Pro. It's a SUPERIOR design to anything they've built since. I think the 2015 model will come to be seen as the epitome of good MBP design in years to come. There's nothing that beats having a good desktop AND a good laptop!

Geez, MM is way faster than any laptop, certainly a 2015 model. Unless you do heavy 4k editing, the GPU will be adquate.
