Any chance to run ( Late 2014 ) Mac Mini / 4k / 60Hz ?
I don't want to play games or movies. But @ 30Hz i better stay away
Thank you
I'm fairly certain that somewhere buried in the driver code is a limit for 2014 Mini. I can tell you that I have a special eGPU EFI on a GTX680 that allows it to show bootscreen and be used as the GUI output on 2014 Mini.
I have it connected to an Asus 4K display and it works great at 30Hz. But when I put it in MST mode last night it still only offered 30Hz. Same setup in Windows easily does 60Hz.
I have a "60Hz hack" for NVIDIA cards in cMP but it can't be applied since the Mini isn't on the blacklist in the first place.
So somewhere else Apple has placed an artificial limit that tells Mini "you can't do MST 60Hz 4K" even when it is connected to GPU that could do it.
Will try with SST 4K today.
UPDATE: Tried Mini with Dell UP2715K on 4K SST mode. Would only do 2560x1440. Looks like Apple is in error.
I think you misunderstood him. He's suggesting that the Mini is artificially limited because even with an external GPU (GTX 680) driving the 4K display, it won't work... i.e. if there wasn't an artificial limit, 4K should work with the external GPU regardless of the limitations of Intel's CPU GPU.There is nothing buried in Apple code preventing the mac mini from doing 4K at 60hz. We would be always better off researching things thoroughly.
It is Intel that you have to check with. Go and read their article on different cpus and graphics.
PS: I know where the article is but I wont do your homework for you.

Are you meaning that with Windows 7 on the mac mini you are able to run 4k 60hz? If yes I would probably installa a virtual machine on my miniI still have no idea if now, in 2015, if we are able to run 60Hz@4K
My monitor, which is actually a 4K Samsung TV, works just fine under Windows 7, but i wish i could hook a Mac Mini on it.
That's the model : Samsung UE40JU6550

Too late... I have received my mini this week...Might be worth trying the "SwitchRez" hack for 52hz.
But you'll need to wait for the next Mini for "full 60hz" ...
