Supposedly 10.10.3 brought about 3840x2160 @ 60hz

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202856

However, I don't see the 2013 MBP's (HD5100) or the 2013 MBA's* (HD5000) on this list as far as SST 4K which are the exact same GPU's used in the Late 2014 Mac Mini's and early reports is that is still isn't working @ 60hz on the 2014 Mini's, so maybe it will work and maybe it won't.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1865420/

* The 2013-2014 MBA's had Thunderbolt 1 and thus the bandwidth would not be enough to handle 4K resolutions, but the 2013 MBP's had Thunderbolt 2 so why the Mini's supposedly can do it, but the 2013 MBP's can't is a mystery....

Edit: The following two items should also be considered: Even before the 10.10.3, people were able to do 52hz @ 4k with the Mini's using SwitchRezX. Also, unless something has changed, the best you can do with 4K is either 1:1 which makes all text and icons tiny, or double DPI which makes your monitor a very accurate (but giant) 1080P. Neither is ideal.

Many threads here about that, here's the latest one

I'd like 60hz 4k on mini also, but it doesn't seem likely, with this hardware for sure, but maybe they will never update it again, maybe it will be discontinued and that's it :(

Edit: sorry, I was slow with typing my answer, paulrbeers explained already

I think we'll have to wait for the NEXT generation Mini to see actual 4k @ 60z...

I'm fairly certain that somewhere buried in the driver code is a limit for 2014 Mini. I can tell you that I have a special eGPU EFI on a GTX680 that allows it to show bootscreen and be used as the GUI output on 2014 Mini.

I have it connected to an Asus 4K display and it works great at 30Hz. But when I put it in MST mode last night it still only offered 30Hz. Same setup in Windows easily does 60Hz.

I have a "60Hz hack" for NVIDIA cards in cMP but it can't be applied since the Mini isn't on the blacklist in the first place.

So somewhere else Apple has placed an artificial limit that tells Mini "you can't do MST 60Hz 4K" even when it is connected to GPU that could do it.

Will try with SST 4K today.

UPDATE: Tried Mini with Dell UP2715K on 4K SST mode. Would only do 2560x1440. Looks like Apple is in error.

Does anyone have the SwitchResX setting for the Dell P2715Q monitor and the Mac Mini 14 to run it at HiDPI at 52 hz?

There is nothing buried in Apple code preventing the mac mini from doing 4K at 60hz. We would be always better off researching things thoroughly.
It is Intel that you have to check with. Go and read their article on different cpus and graphics.

PS: I know where the article is but I wont do your homework for you.

I think you misunderstood him. He's suggesting that the Mini is artificially limited because even with an external GPU (GTX 680) driving the 4K display, it won't work... i.e. if there wasn't an artificial limit, 4K should work with the external GPU regardless of the limitations of Intel's CPU GPU.

Whether he's right about Apple purposely placing an "artificial limitation, or it's really some random issue with the eGPU setup/compatibility, we don't know.

I think we'll have to wait for the -next- version of the Mini to get true 4k @60hz. ...

You completely didn't understand what I wrote.

We would be always better off reading things thoroughly before posting snarky nonsense.

Past testing was with 4K MST, tonight I will test with SST 4K.

I still have no idea if now, in 2015, if we are able to run 60Hz@4K
My monitor, which is actually a 4K Samsung TV, works just fine under Windows 7, but i wish i could hook a Mac Mini on it.
That's the model : Samsung UE40JU6550

Are you meaning that with Windows 7 on the mac mini you are able to run 4k 60hz? If yes I would probably installa a virtual machine on my mini

No Sir, we cannot run 60Hz@4K on a mini in 2015. :(

Only one question: is a pleasant option watch a movie with 30hz in 4K?
Because I'm considering buying another tv and have to decide between 4K and full hd...

Might be worth trying the "SwitchRez" hack for 52hz.

But you'll need to wait for the next Mini for "full 60hz" ...

Too late... I have received my mini this week...
Maybe a good full hd would be better in 55 inches flavor

Does the Dell UltraSharp UP2715K have the same PPI quality as the iMac 5k 27 " ?
Font quality, crisp, etc.
Thank you
