Hello,
This is a story about a normal guy, who lives in Belgium, Europe who wanted a Mac and chose a Mac Mini and has very serious regrets he did it! This is my story,...
June 2006
I finally received my Intel Mac Mini, Core Duo 1,66 Ghz with 2 GB ram from my authorized reseller which I bought through the printcompany I work for as a Designer. Very proud I went home to show my relatives how tiny and how fast this little Mac was! I was a happy customer,...
September 2006
The Superdrive, which is present in my Mac suddently malfunctioned. The Finder of OSX Tiger does not show me a mounted CD and/or DVD. The first time I got my CD out of the drive, but when I mounted a DVD it did not came back! I had to send it to my authorized reseller where the Superdive was changed to a new one.
October 2006
A small period after my first bad experience, the Superdrive again malfunctioned. The drive is not abel to mount a CD/DVD at all. It gets spit out all the time. Again I send it back to my reseller,..where the drive again gets changed.
January 2007
The drive is working well,..but all of a sudden my Mac is not able have a longer uptime then 25 minutes. It shuts down and will not stay up for about 1 minute until it shuts down again. The Mini shows hardwarefailure when I run the Hardware Test from my DVD, when the mini has cooled down. Again, I send it back to my reseller where the logic board gets changed
July 2007 *** August-September 2007
The Superdrive is somtimes not recognized in the System Profiler and is unable to mount a DVD into OSX. Software like iDVD tells me that "there is no physical Superdrive" present in the system. 5 minutes later,..there suddenly is one present,...10 minutes later,..its gone again.
I suspect another logic board failure as the superdrive seems to receive power. As this is my 4th complaint in the small year I have the machine I deceide to request a new mac mini as I am far from happy with my current one. My authorized reseller, tells me to contact Apple by myself to request a new machine. Apple themselves tell me I should send it back to the reseller where they can take a look at it.
Again I send it back to my reseller. My reseller however is unable to solve this issue and sends it to Apple to take a look at it. Apple claims to my reseller that they have run serious tests on the hardware and that they cannot find any issues which may conflict the machine. The only thing Apple does it reinstalling the OSX Tiger software on the machine, as they think that the problem is software related.
After nearly 1,5 months I receive my mini back. I deceide to check it while at the prepress-office. There I find out that my mini shutsdown automatically down when it awakes from hybernation. I didn't change any settings as the system was reinstalled and had the default settings by Apple still enabled.
I call again to my authorized reseller and they suggest to remove some plist settings in order to "reset" they system's hybernation function. This does not seem to work and the mini keeps shutting down after awaking from its hybernation function.
The same day I received it back, I send the mini back to my reseller.
The reseller acknowledges that there is something wrong with the hardware,...again, and calls to Apple as I desperately request a new machine. Apple says,..NO! I cannot receive a new machine from Apple.
The resellers wants to reload OSX on my machine,..but I say "********,..the system is reinstalled by Apple,..so this procedure is useless,..I suspect a bad logic board,..once again"
I have tried to give my reseller and Apple as much information as possible to solve the first issue. But now I have a second issue. As I have not received any information, from the reseller, or Apple about the Superdrive issue, there is no guarantee that this issue is fixed.
I am shocked how Apple treats a customer who is obviously suffering with a wicked machine. As far as I know Apple is responsible to give a customer a working machine. Even fixed parts of the machine should be working properly. I have not received fixed hardware which is working like it should be.
I hope my story awakens some reactions.
