Mac Mini and Monoprice Crystalpro 27 monitor working for anyone?

I just got one of these awesome new monitors from Monoprice and it does not work correctly with my Mac Mini (Late 2012) - I have the Apple MiniDisplay Port to Dual Link DVI Adapter and the monitor is recognized on boot by my Mac, then once I get to the log-in screen (and any after) the monitor cycles from on with my desktop (looks amazing), to sleep (light goes to Red), then back to on and then back to asleep (cycle never stops). I'm working with Monoprice support but so far no resolution. The reviews on the Mini-Display Port to Dual Link DVI adapters (both Apples and Monoprices) have lots of negative feedback, so perhaps it's just something flaky with the technology to convert using this super high resolution? Anyone else having these issues with their Mac Mini and this monitor?

Overall this Monitor is a HUGE WIN, I was worried that for the price there would be major sacrifices, but honestly, at this point I love it. It's only able to work on my windows PC currently, but it just looks amazing. If I can get this to work on my Mac Mini I'm going to buy a 2nd one and still be less than the Apple TB Display..
 
I would say return it:
For 500 bucks you can have the Dell U2713HM which has no need for the adapter, so you end up paying roughly the same.
Guess the Monoprice does not come with sRGB calibration, height adjustment, swivel, pivot, 24p movie support and 3 year warranty either?

All good points, the Monoprice monitor is pretty basic for sure while the Dell 2713HM has many more features. Question I do have is where have you seen this monitor for 500$? I think the BEST price I've seen on it is 650$ from Dell (On sale from it's retail of 799$), I did see a Newegg Shellshocker once for 550$. Never seen it for 500$.

Just to verify have any of you folks used the 2713HM on a Mac Mini (late 2012) successfully?? I just would like to know for SURE that this works before any more monitor gymnastics..:)

I'm not using it, but many people are. To get a proper working 2560x1440 27" monitor to work it appears to require a displayport which you rarely can get on a cheap Korean 27" monitor (and the ones I see with displayport are well over $500 so you might as well step up to a known monitor in the Dell 2713HM).

I will say, I haven't seen the 2713HM for $500 unless maybe it is in the Dell refurb/outlet store (this is purely speculation on my part).

Yeah, I'm seeing it for $662 on amazon and more on Dell's site. At 650+ from Dell and other places I'd start to look at a refurbished Thunderbolt or Cinema Display.

I was really interested in the Monoprice though, too bad you're having issues with it. It's been mentioned that they've got an HDMI version coming out at some point as well.
 
The monoprice monitor is like $350. , this dell monitor is $600 from what you guys are saying
 
I did not say dollars. I said bucks. Here that's Euro's. Usually euro and dollar prices are roughly the same on electronics, so I expected the Dell to be around 500$ too, but in case of the dell, they probably have a more fair exchange rate than Apple for example who does all prices €-$ 1:1. Here the Dell is 497€ including 21% VAT, so for businesses it is only 410€, and translating it to Dollars at 1.28 to the Euro right now, you would expect 525$ excl. sales tax on the Dell. So the Dell seems pretty expensive in the US! Quite unique.

Check the firmware version of your adapter. If it is not 1.0.3 you should get it swapped for one that has 1.0.3 firmware.

I did verify my adapter has 1.0.3 as I did see on some other forums that the newer firmware might help.
 
I wonder if the adapter is designed for 30" monitors and not the 27". Since Apple has never released a 27" with DVI, one could assume all the testing has been done using 30" Cinema Displays with 2560x1600 res rather than the 2560x1440 of the 27". That could explain why OSX freaks out. Purely speculation on my part. Either way go with the Auria display from Microcenter so at least you get native display port for only 400.

It wasn't $550, but with a 10% code it was $585 (shipped) so I ordered it. I'm going to keep my Monoprice Crystalpro until I get this Dell 2713HM to be able to compare them side by side. I'll let you know if it (2713 HM) works well with my Mac Mini (late 2012), and if so I'm going to be returning the Monoprice monitor or selling it to a buddy who's a windows guy.

I have read alot of complaints about the amount of antiglare coating that the dell uses. so any info how bad it is would be helpful.
 
I have the Dell monitor. U2713HM
Connection made with mini display port to display port and i can honestly say its fantastic.
Sure its not as pretty as the new iMacs but the image quality is comparable. Anti glare is fine on this monitor...no where near as heavy as the U2711.
I think it cost $550 Australian when Dell had a sale.

i've been using a korean shimian for about a year now with no problems i think your crystalpro might just be messed up exchange for a new one

i also am on the record saying this is the year 1440p shines and they make allot more monitor with this resolution for sub 400 bucks with 1440p resolution...monoprice as well has said that there coming out with a new version this of the crystal pro with hdmi and speakers..

I worked extensively with Monoprice and this was their final reply on the issues with the Crystalpro 27 and Mac:

Thanks for contacting Monoprice. In regards to your inquiry, unfortunately at this time one of the updates from apple are having issues with new monitors. We are unable to pinpout which update it was, but it appeared to happen somewhere at the start of the year. It's not necessarily that they are not incompatible, as they are experiencing this issue with other new monitors also (besides ours). To elaborate, it's not the adapters fault, the cable, or the monitor necessarily, but basically an issue with one of the updates. We would recommend contacting apple to see if there is any new revisions or solutions for this, but from our findings, we were unable to find a fix for it on our side, as it's not really due to our monitors themselves. If worse comes to work we can offer a refund for you, but I'm sure you really want to use that monitor, but from the apple forums and such, you aren't the only one experiencing this issue. That is currently our best advice at this time..

Remember, we are always willing to offer a refund also, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

So, If you want a 2560x1440 monitor for your Mac, don't buy this one. I believe the problem is with the Dual-Link DVI interface to the Mac, since there is no Display Port or any other option the Monoprice monitor.

So, in my quest to get a 27 high resolution monitor for my Mac Mini (late 2012) I ended up buying the Dell 2713HM, I got it this week and with a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (5$ from Monoprice) I'm using it right now and I have to say I LOVE IT!!! I've had ZERO issues with it waking up from sleep or anything. It's not shiny like my Monoprice Crystalpro 27 (which I have ended up keeping for my Windows PC), but it's got just enough matting to make everything look REALLY crisp/sharp without being dull. I have always been a fan of the Glossy look, but this Dell may have won me over. Also the overall build quality of the Dell vs. the Monoprice is worlds apart. The Dell stand is AWESOME, it tilts in all directions and feels VERY solid! The extra kicker is that the Dell monitor comes with a 4 port USB 3.0 Hub! This saved me another 20-30$ I was about to spend so really all things considered, I think the Dell is much more bang for the buck. 2560x1440 on a 27' monitor is stunning.

i really think 2013 is the year of the cheap 1440p monitor as imma need another for the new mac pro imma get :) i was gonna get the dell but anything 400$ and up is breaking my balls for me
