Hi!
I upgraded my 2008 mac mini the other day with 4 Gigs of RAM. I powered it up, rebooted it, ran diagnostics, and also did a shutdown for a short while. Everything worked flawlessly, so my conclusion was that the RAM switch was a success.
The next day when I started the mini, it didn't boot, and beeped 3 times. I.e. "Bad RAM". I opened it and resetted the CMOS (by putting a piece of paper between the battery and the "holder" (?). Then I started it up, and it worked fine. I did the same procedure as the first time, without any problems. But the next day the problem arose again...
The conclusion then is that power loss for a certain period of time gives the problem. But why? The only thing I can think of is a bad battery, but since a CMOS reset fixes the problem, I'm not sure?
(The RAM is 2x2GB with the brand "A-Data". It's not PC2 5300, but rather PC2 6400, running at a lower speed. I guess that this could be a problem, but it doesn't explain why the only fail after extended power loss?)
