Mac mini best audio out

I am looking to find some sort of USB audio adapter to improve sound output from my mini. Does this exist? Is the mac 1/8" jack the best audio output? Thanks for any help on this.

That port offers digital optical audio up to 7.1. You need a Toslink cable with an miniplug on one end and conventional Toslink on the other. This should connect to a receiver capable of decoding the various digital codecs (e.g., Dolby Digital, DTS).

thanks caveman. I have a onkyo 607 and I do not see any specs/inputs for this TOS input. Does this mean my best option would be 1/8" mini jack to RCA cables for sound?

If you have the Onkyo TX-SR607 then you should have two optical ports on the back of the receiver.

Caveman, thanks for the help. The audio is very nice through the POS connector. As a follow up, I would like to use the 1/8" audio out like I am now but I would also like to use an FM transmitter.

Could this be done with a USB audio connector? Could something like this be used in conjunction with the audio out?
