mac mini best for reliability?

since you can add a second hard drive or buy the sever addition with 2 hard drives and have it run as raid 1 i wonder if this makes the mac mini the most reliable out either an imac or macmini. the chance that a hard drive will fail is like 0.25% in 3 years. if one fails and you replace it before the second fails your chance of loosing your data is like 0.03% or something.

im just thinking what would be the best option for data integrity. imac or mac mini

With any Mac you can have a Backup. I would say that one is not more reliable than any other.

My mini has a single HDD. I keep a time machine backup on a separate Lacie.. which i update every few days.. or immediately after installing new software or adding photos/music etc.

In addition to that I also have a Carbon Copy Clone on another, much older Maxtor. I update this maybe once a month.. or when I remember to.

I don't worry about losing my 'stuff'.

Later in the year I may add a second internal HDD or SSD. but right now I don't consider it a priority - I'm more than happy with the machines performance as it is.

I read all about the various faults and issues people have - but so far mine has been tediously reliable. My attitude right now is: if it ain't broke - don't fix it.

I am on my fourth Mac Mini since 2006. I have never turned them off and they have been running in a constant 24-7 cycle in my house as a media server. I have never had a hardware failure. I've lost a hard drive once, but with a proper backup I was back online in a day.

I can't speak for other peoples reliability but for me this has been an extremely reliable device.
