I am interested in hearing from people who have had the "chirping" and what it was finally diagnosed as?

I have a 2.2c2d refurb mini I bought about a month ago and it is constantly making chirping noises - I haven't been able to pinpoint what is causing it, or if it is tied to any activity yet.

thanks

Its hard to describe, just a repeating chirping sound, almost like there is a bird stuck in there. A search reveals that others have had this problem but nobody seems to have pinned down a single legit reason.

seeing as there's only a couple moving parts, it's either the fan(s) or hard drive. some hdd's beep (tell the system to beep) to let you know they're failing (like how brakes pads squeal when they need to be replaced). a constant squealing/chirping sound is most likely the fan. a random beep or odd noise is prob the hard drive. that's all i can guess without actually hearing what you hear.

Agreed. Possibly a bad bearing in fan or HD

Guess I'll back up the ol' HD soon. My macs have such a terrible track record with HDs.. I wonder if the slim designs just come at the price of hotter HDs.
