I bought a Mac Mini yesterday at the 5th Ave Apple Store in NYC. I bought it to use in my home theater setup. I was so excited unboxing the Mini when I got home. I plugged it in, hit the power on button and nothing. Not even a peep, not a whisper. It was D.O.A. straight out of the box! It would not power on. So I tried moving it to a different power strip, still nothing. Then plugging it directly to the wall. Still dead.

I was SOOOO HEATED I ended up returning to the Apple Store at 2am to exchange it. The night time manager was really nice and I explained to him I spent $100 in cab fare from my first trip home from the Apple store, then back for the return, then having to return in a cab home again. So he manually typed in a discount number during the exchange and gave me 16% off the purchase price. He said I wish I could give you cash to cover your cab fare but this should help. :) The discount came out to around $100 off. I left happy. :)

Not surprised at the customer service, but im surprised an Apple store is open at 2am!!! Good ending. How is the mac mini?

Nice. My Mini also didn't turn on the first time it booted up. But, it was just the cable going into the power brick that was loose.

Guess I didn't see that. From what I did see, it looked like the guy just gave you some money.
I got a new one. I bought the base config and I'll upgrade the RAM and HD myself. Will the new $250 1 terabyte drive that was announced this past week fit in the new mini? If yes, I'll go with that one

On Wdnesday I ordered a 17" Macbook Pro and a 24" cinema display. I'm using the mini as a temp desktop till the Macbook Pro gets here from China then the mini goes in the TV cabinet to watch HD MKVs. (impatiently checking fedex tracking every hour). :)

What do you guys use your minis for?

Wow, that's great customer service.
He did a good job. He was kinda hot so I couldn't be man at him. Lol

I don't think the 1TB hard drive will in the Mac Mini.

I currently use my Mac Mini as my main computer. I plan to get an iMac in the future as my main computer and use the Mac Mini as a HTPC.

When you guys use it as an HTPC are you running HT software or using front row? Part of the reason I got the mini is I got tired of trying to convert MKVs to a format compatible with the AppleTV. With the mini I figured I'd install a few codecs and watch it directly without have to carry my laptop over to the TV.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

Personally, I'm not wild about plex. It has more choices than I want, and I find navigation a little glitchy (arrows don't always work to go forward and back)

It shouldn't have any problems with the new 1TB drive.

My first Mac mini was DOA, too :) It was my first Mac, ordered on the day the Intel Mac mini was announced. Top spec, at the time.

I still have its replacement. It now has a 500GB WD (Scorpio?) Blue in it. Incredible drive :)

One thing I don't understand is how my Mac mini is still so damn fast. It holds my entire AppleTV/iTunes library but never misses a beat. Ok, so I only use it for browsing, messaging, stuff like that, but it's Teh Snappy™!

Enjoy yours :D Long may it last!

Hopefully it's a 9.5mm height and not 12mm. 12mm won't fit.

Of course, we can't help but gripe that both of these boast unorthodox 12.5mm form factors, which dwarfs the standard 9.5mm-height slot found in most laptops, but hey, progress is progress -- right? With that in mind, it's easy to see why both of these are being marketed hard in the external HDD market
