I think I am going to sell my 2006 intel imac and get a new or refurb mac mini and have a few questions for the experts.

1) Any idea of where I could sell my old imac? I'm assuming ebay or craigslist. I would prefer to use a source other than ebay, due to scams and the increasing listing fees. I might either sell my ipad mini with the computer or separate(great compact size, but really hard to read on it when I'm used to a bigger screen real estate)

2) Would the slower hard drive cause any problems? I'm assuming the higher ram would make a more noticeable speed difference.

I would be using the mac mini to surf the internet, do some scrapbooking (using adobe photoshop elements or seashore), word processing, and maybe using it to watch regular hulu or other streaming sites on the tv.

3) Is it worth upgrading to the 1.7? I use my computers for several years before upgrading.

4) Accessories suggestions? (keyboard, trackpad, monitor, speakers)

Thanks!

For what you plan to do on it the drive is fine. If you are going to work with larger files (muxing movies for a media center) and want speed and capacity, you can easily mount a 7200rpm drive for 70 bucks or so.

Upgrade to 1.7? What has a 1.7 version?

Keyboard and mouse: IMO a 3.5€ Logitech mouse beats any of Apple's offerings for input, and so does any MS keyboard. Don't mind the looks. If you want an Apple keyboard, the wired one is great (I really need the T-input and numpad), and you can also get it with standing return (matter of preference).

I think the i7 is worth the extra $$$.

Keyboards and mice are a personal issue. You may like Apple's products, or you may not.

I _don't_ care for either the Apple keyboard (any version) or for their mice/trackpad, either.

As blanka wrote above, Logitech mice are some of the best around (I use one with my Mini and another with my iMac).

If you don't mind the "new/flat" type of keyboard, you can try Apple's. I prefer the "old style" keyboards with larger shaped keys like old teletype keyboards, but that's just me.

IMHO there are more scams on Craigslist! You do tend to get the most money on EBAY which compensates for the fees.

None of this usage will put any strain on the hard drive. Only the scrapbooking might need much RAM. The base Mac mini, no options, would be just fine for your usage.

Entirely personal preference.
