Mac MIni Display Resetting

I have a mac mini that when it comes out of sleep, the display settings are reset. It is like it goes bigger than the screen. (Tabs and all are out of view) I am on a 21.5-inch (1920 x 1080) HP

I have to go into setting preferences and click on the 1600x900 options, then click back on the 1080p option for it to look right.

This did not happen until I updated to the new OS High Sierra. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this issue?

Welcome to the world of High Sierra where all kinds of surprises occur....I too have had many issue.. like SIMBL has suddenly quit...........what is it....finder does not know

Just wondering -- when you have the "displays" pref pane open, do you see any option at all for "overscan"?

If you do, what happens if you try adjusting it?

You can automate changing the screen resolution using AppleScript.
I haven't had to write this one myself, but here's a couple of example scripts:
Stack Exchange , GitHub.
I just save stuff like this as an App on the Desktop.
When the problem crops up, fixing it just takes a double click.
