Hi everone, this is my very first post here on mac forums. I am having trouble with an external DVD burner that I bought for my mac mini 2,1. The DVD burner is a TEAC DV-W28S-V.

The strange thing is when I first plugged it in the mac mini recognised it right off the bat and all was good. I burned a few discs, no problemo. Then about 2 days later the mac stopped reconizing it. If i replug it into the mac then the mac recognizes it for about half a minute or something and then nothing.

Any ideas, anyone?

I also bought another external DVD burner, and I am having the same problems.

Thanks in advance
Darren

I hate when I don't get an answer. but of both drives are doing it it is most likely the mini. but it may be a power issue. I have had problems with hard drives and such not getting enough power from my mini. a powered hub fixed it. so are these drives running off of usb power?

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

thanks for the reply. What you say makes a lot of sense. I had both burners powered by USB from the mac. I will buy a power plug to run the burner and hopefully that will solve the problem.

thanks again :)

not sure if the mini is underpowered or what. macs don't give the warnings like a pc would tell you the usb is overloaded.

saw it on my pc's but not on my mini. the drive just did not work when I plugged it into any port but a powered up one.
