I just bought a mac mini and the fan noise bothers me a lot!

I think Mac mini was distinguished for its quietness, at least I thought it was. But mine was so noisy, especially during video playback. I installed the smcFanControl to see the fan speed. Every time I open Frontrow and playing a movie trailer, the fan speed go straight to around 5000rpm. And the noise is just driving me crazy.

Is this problem normal or I just got a malfunctioning machine?

If you own a mac mini, please help me. Thank you very much!

if its less than a year old, take it to an apple store. i had one, and it was whisper quiet, but sometimes even apple puts out duds.

I just bought it for one week, and there's the problem. Is your mini Power PC inside or Intel inside?

This is definitely not normal. I had a mini for almost 2yrs and the thing was dead silent from day 1 til I sold it a few days ago. Any chance the ram was upgraded and the fan control wire was not plugged back in? There is a black wire in the front next to the "watch battery" that you have to disconnect when you install the ram. If you dont plug that back in the fans run full blast.

This is just a generic pic of the mini with the cover off but the fan control wire is right in there. If the ram hasnt been upgraded or this is new then something else is wrong.

The fan in my Core 2 Duo mini runs pretty fast when playing any kind of video. I thought it was the nature of the beast.
