Long story short.

Bought a mac mini a couple weeks ago. About a week ago the fan came on and wouldn't stop. I restart it, and everything is normal.

Two days ago the fan comes on again and won't go off. I restart it and the fan comes on immediately and won't stop. Nothing will make the fan go off.

I've reset the pram, blah, blah, blah.

But, since I only have dial-up, I haven't updated anything on it yet, since there's over half a GB of updates for it.

Anybody got any ideas or any experiences with anything like this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

1. Ask a friend with broadband to burn a disc for you with updates
2. Check Activity Monitor when your fans spin up to see if there's a rogue process that wants to use a lot of CPU.
3. Try SMCFanControl2

You didn't happen to do a ram or other upgrade that had you take the mini apart did you?

Often when the fan runs constantly it is after people do an upgrade and either forget to re-attach the tiny two wire connector, or it becomes disconnected from the motherboard. (the connector is located near the speaker) .
